About Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a system of manual therapy that offers holistic diagnosis and numerous different ‘hands on’ treatments, from gentle cranial and functional work to firmer joint mobilisation and muscle release.  The main focus of the Osteopath is to diagnose and treat the root of the problem, not just the symptoms.

Osteopathy can also assist with many common and not so common conditions and ailments experienced throughout life, at all different ages and milestones.

During pregnancy women undergo immense changes as their weight increases and their centre of gravity changes. Osteopathy can help mothers cope with these changes as they prepare for delivery and may also optimise recovery following child birth.

Osteopathy can also be effective in assisting the treatment of visceral problems (such as asthma) and, although treatment does not replace the need for prescribed medication, it may help reduce the symptoms. Ultimately the Osteopath’s main aim is to improve the condition and help reduce the need for medication.

Gentle cranial and functional osteopathy can be used to treat anyone from babies and children, to the elderly.  These techniques are often used soon after a baby is born to ensure that the trauma of delivery hasn’t left any patterns of dysfunction that may inhibit a child’s development, or later if symptoms arise resulting from dysfunction.
